Today is the release for The Fairy Bargains of Prospect Hill and…
…look, the big secret of publishing books? By the time they come out, they’re like fledglings that left the nest months ago. Otters that have been chased off by their mothers in favor of new pups. Baby bears that…ok, I’ve been watching too much Island of the Sea Wolves on Netflix. At any rate, by the time a book publishes, the author hasn’t done much with it in months and has celebrated countless little milestones like finishing the first draft, finalizing copyedits, uncrossing their eyes after pass pages.
So my excitement for this book to be out in the world is kind of removed. I’ve had my celebrations for it, those personal triumphs over the work of writing it and editing it and proofing it. My excitement—and my anxiety—is for your experience of the book. I’m thrilled (and also mildly terrified) that other humans will read it, and get to know these prickly, flawed sisters and the dual worlds of the historical Midwest circa 1900 and the Fae court beyond it.
I really hope you like it.
And for local friends, we’re having a little celebration of the book NEXT Tuesday, April 4, at the Barnes and Noble at University Park Mall. We’ll do a reading and Q&A starting at 6 p.m.
The usual racket: You can buy Fairy Bargains anywhere that books are sold, but hey, if you can, hit up your local indie. Even if it’s not on the shelf, they can order it for you. I still have some custom bookplates available, and if you want a signed copy, hit me up my contact form on my website, and I’ll send you one while supplies last.
And after that? I’m working on something new that involves bothering my librarians every other week with a new interlibrary loan request and has me listening to Tchaikovsky on repeat. More soon on that, I hope.
Finally, because you’ve earned it, please enjoy a baby chick in a tutu.
